This is an introductory survey course in church history covering important events, figures, movements, and religious, social, and intellectual developments of the patristic and medieval periods. It is normally the first course in church history taken by students in hybrid-distance degree programs.

The first of two courses in historical theology that examines theology from the second through the 12th centuries, seeking to understand how certain figures, movements, and controversies have helped to shape the development ofChristian theology. Special attention is given to key Patristic theological works and to the Ecumenical Councils of the Church.

This course and its companion, PM 502, provide a foundation in practical areas of parish ministry in the Anglican context with focus on the following areas of ministry: personal leadership (priestly identity, character, leading with one’s strengths, self-organization, emotional maturity, and family systems); pastoral counseling (including issues of abuse, divorce, addiction, suicide, gender dysphoria, and mandated reporting); and polity and canon law (including the structure of the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion).

'Bring a Friend' Scholarship

Invite a friend to Nashotah House and you or your friend will be taking a course for the first time, you will each be eligible to receive a tuition scholarship of $300 for credit or $100 for audit. Each individual must have completed the appropriate student application (for a degree or as a Visiting Student), registered for a course, and submitted this scholarship request by the course registration deadline. Only one promotional scholarship may be requested per term.

Church groups of three or more individuals from the same congregation will each be eligible to receive a tuition scholarship of $300 for credit or $100 for audit. Each individual must have completed the appropriate student application (for a degree or as a Visiting Student), registered for a course, and submitted this scholarship request by the course registration deadline. Only one promotional scholarship may be requested per term.

Nashotah House alums who are not currently in a degree program are eligible to receive a tuition scholarship of $300 for credit or $100 for audit. HOUSING & MEALS
To request housing and meals for a winter residential week, fill out the housing and meals form as soon as possible. If you have questions about housing, please contact Kelly Medina at kmedina@nashotah.edu.

REFUNDS
Please inquire for deadlines regarding tuition refunds. Full refunds for housing and refectory fees will not be given after two (2) weeks prior to arrival on campus. If you have questions about fees related to your course, please contact the bursar at bursar@nashotah.edu
