When I first felt called to vocational ministry I was certain God must have dialed the wrong number. After intense unsuccessful negotiations with God about my call I finally responded and began vocational ministry in 2005. At a small church in College Station, Texas, something curious happened. Ministry, a call I never desired or even entertained began to fulfill my life in a way I had never known. After my first year of ministry, I knew I would never be happy doing anything else.

After 12 years in ministry, I have had the ride of my life. God has taken me places and called me to work with and love people I never would have imagined. I have specialized experience with ministry to high-risk teens, suicide and crisis intervention, domestic minor sex trafficking, rape survivors and victims of domestic violence. Over the last three years I have had the privilege to work with refugee families from Southeast Asia at St. James Episcopal Church in Dallas. In addition to my work at a parish level, my greatest passion is advocating for refugee resettlement through my work with The Episcopal Migration Ministry.

For the past 4 years, I have been discerning my call to the Priesthood and believe my journey at Nashotah House will be pivotal for the formation of my heart in preparation to serve God's church wherever I am called.

God has moved in mighty ways through me, a broken vessel. In love and deep humility, I ask for your support in prayer and faithful financial giving. Let's see what else God can do through this little broken vessel of His.

Grace + Peace,
Amanda L. Payne
