Summary:
Saint James’ parish was established in 1876, and has served the cities of Texarkana, both Texas and Arkansas, continuously during the intervening 144 years. We pride ourselves on the excellence of our Anglo-Cathlolic liturgy, our traditional sacred music program, and our welcoming parish community.
Two of our most important ministries outside our walls consist of the Randy Sams Outreach Shelter ( http://www.randysams.org/ ) and St. James Day School (http://stjamesdayschool.org/ ), each of which were founded from the Parish, and continue to be very important to our members. Our Rector serves as chaplain to both of these major presences in our community, and has traditionally held a board position on each. A passion for working with young people and the those who find themselves homeless or in transition are skills necessary for the position. Our Rectors have traditionally served as ex-officio “Rectors of All Texarkana”, being frequently called upon to minister to the sick, the dying and the needy, and are frequently invited to pray over and bless community events.
